Happy Halfway

The cake my kids made for their dad's 40th birthday. We’re sitting at breakfast the day after semester finals for my children. It was also the day before my husband’s 40th birthday.

“Well, we’re halfway through.” I say, meaning halfway through a long Minnesota winter and halfway through school.

“Halfway to what?” My nine-year-old asks.

“To dead.” My husband says.

Good thing we don’t know when the Lord will take us home. I just turned 40 in December. If I have to live to 110, I would pass out right now. 80 sounds like a good life.
