Red Hot Applesauce

My mom started this tradition–red hots in our applesauce on Valentine’s Day morning.

I’ve continued it.

Just like I’m sure that surprises her, I’m surprised that it means so much to my children.

After my grocery trip this weekend my daughter slipped into the pantry to “check something.”

“What were you looking for,” I asked.

“To see if you remembered,” K said.

“Remembered what?”

“The red hots,” she said. “And you did.”

How could I forget?

It’s the little things they remember the longest.

Cute! I love holiday traditions, especially the ones that involve food.

Yes I remember too. What fun memories your mom made for all of us.

Just in the past week I’ve had a couple of people ask if we have any Valentine’s Day traditions. Although we don’t have any really established in our house with Valentine’s Day I told them about what I remember as a kid – red hot applesauce! This year I made heart shaped scones. They all liked them!

It warms my heart to know that some of the traditions and fond memories continue. Dad was on the road and I missed this one this year. I have not missed many in the 30 something years we have been doing this. Thanks for sharing.
