The Best Is Yet To Be

To the person in our house who would rather ignore, not celebrate, his BIG birthday this week, I say:

Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be,
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand
Who saith “A whole I planned,
Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!”

Excerpt from Rabbi Ben Ezra by Robert Browning; read the rest here.

Jeffrey R. Holland quoted this poem at Brigham Young University on Jan. 13. Listen to Remember Lot’s Wife to hear what he said about looking forward and not back.

I found you through your comment on Segullah. I needed your words– I listened to Elder Holland over and over and cried A LOT. It all seemed so applicable until he got to the end and I realized he was talking to college students. We made all our mistakes back then(thanks to bad counsel) and there’s no going back now. I need to listen again and remind myself that it’s never too late.

I adore your beautiful, thoughtful blog and will be reading from now on.

I need to keep this in mind … especially when these lean years with young kids get the best of me 🙂 !!
