Mother-daughter Beauty Day

What do you do when the boys leave for scout camp? Beauty days, of course. My girls and I spent the afternoon and evening doing girly girl stuff. We started at the library where we checked out five beauty books, inlcuding How Not to Look Old. If you know me at all, this is uncharacteristic. EH said the same thing and that she didn’t need to not look old. “That one’s for me,” I said.

And why not? It’s just a day to do something different like warm homemade oatmeal, egg and honey facials with soothing cucumber slices and vinegar rinses in our hair. We sat around the edge of my soaking tub with our feet in the suds and followed up with pedicures and manicures.

In the evening we ate Nectarine Chicken Salad with garden fresh sugar snap peas for dinner on the screen porch. And we watched the remake of Sabrina; we saw the original last month when the boys went to the father-son camp out. Our transformations weren’t as dramatic as hers, but then we didn’t go off to Paris for them, either.

My wife’s family does this same sort of thing, but it’s not always girly movies and cucumber slices. Mostly, it’s loads of junk food and movies-till-you-drop, which always sounds better than what I’m doing with “the guys.” So, usually I complain a lot about it and my wife celebrates with me when I get home! She’s nice like that.

    Looks like fun!
I look forward to when my girls are old enough to have girly nights like that with me.

    (I almost said, “I can’t wait to… when…”, but really, I can wait!)

What an awesome idea! I can’t wait until my baby is old enough to do some of this stuff!
