Joy Through Prayer

Were I to write a Twelve Moments of Joy post today it would be only half true. It’s hard to enjoy happiness in the middle of such sorrow.

So much sadness filled this week as our congregation suffered a loss and our nation shook with the shootings of young children in Connecticut.

While I haven’t worn these particular pains, I have tried on my own. And no one likes how suffering feels, especially under such circumstances as these.

My fifth of twelve moments is joy in prayer. And while I do not suspect the prayers that we’re offering in our nation today bring us much joy, I am glad to know prayer is the ultimate pathway to that joy we seek and may eventually find.

Even in sadness and tears, my joy is full today knowing that Jesus Christ can lift us in prayer to bear the burdens of sorrow and suffering, and knowing also that deliverance eventually comes.
